What is a Memory Foam Pillow?
The memory foam pillow is simply a pillow made of polyurethane which when combined with other chemicals forms memory foam. This pillow has a unique design that helps you achieve a more comfortable resting experience.
It has gathered attention in recent years due to its clear benefits. For example, it helps align your spine even when you’re sleeping on your sides. Another benefit is how air can flow through it which allows for a better air circulation.
How to Clean the Memory Foam Pillow?
Ingredients and Materials
- Baking Powder
- Vacuum Cleaner
- Wash Cloth
- Water
- Dry Towel
Step 1
The first step of the cleaning method is to simply remove any smell from the pillow. To do this, you need some baking powder and pour it into the pillow. Alternatively, you can also use borax. This freshens the pillow to allow it for further cleaning.
You can just leave it alone for at least 30 minutes. Make sure you leave it in a well-ventilated area and not under the sun. Hot environments can make your pillow even get worse smell which the opposite of what we want. If you do it correctly, by the end of this step, your memory foam pillow should be quite fragrant.
Step 2
It’s vacuuming time. Yes, the next step is to use your vacuum cleaner. However, before you do, make sure that there are indeed no more bad smells coming from the pillow. If you find out that it still smells bad in some parts, you can repeat step one.
We use the vacuum to thoroughly clean the pillow from dust and other solid particles. Pet hairs, for example, can get stuck on the pillow and can harm your lungs if inhaled.
Step 3
Now that the solid particles are removed, it’s time to remove the liquid ones, or at least what remains of them. We are talking about stains. It’s rare for memory foam pillows to get stains, but if they do, removing them is actually pretty straightforward.
You can just use a washcloth to wet the stains and easily remove them. Unlike some other surfaces, stains from memory foam pillows do not scatter and smudge when wet. You can rub the stains in an irregular way. However, the recommended way is to rub in a circular motion.
After doing this, you should now have a wet but clean memory foam pillow.
Step 4
The next step is to dry the pillow. You do not actually need to rub a dry cloth vigorously on it or let it dry under the sun. Instead, you can just use a dry towel and simply put on top of the memory foam pillow. That’s it.
If left as is, the dry towel will soak up some of the moisture from the pillow. You can leave it for around 20 minutes, still in a well-ventilated area. By the end of it, the pillow should have dried up somewhat.
Step 5
The final step is just further drying up the memory foam pillow. But this time, it’s without the towel. As mentioned before, we strongly recommend not letting it dry up under the sun. Instead, you can use an electric fan to dry the pillow up quicker.
Summary
Cleaning a memory foam pillow is actually a pretty straightforward process even if it’s made of a different material than a traditional one. If you use a clean memory foam pillow, your sleeping nights will surely be the most comfortable experience you can have. So take care of them!
